Oprah Launches Her "OWN" Network

Oprah Winfrey OWN Network set to launch January 1 - what's on, what channel? -- Most TV viewers know that media mogul Oprah Winfrey is about to leave her 25-year-long run on her daytime talk show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, to start her "own" new network called OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network). What many people may not know is that the network is set to launch this coming Saturday, January 1st.  Viewers may also wonder what kinds of programming the network will provide and where they can find it on their list of channels.
According to OWN's website, viewers can find OWN by locating the Discovery Health Channel that is on their televisions now. OWN will take over this channel starting at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday, January 1, 2011. Some of the most popular programming from Discovery Health will move over with OWN. If viewers are not able to find Discovery Health, they can call their local cable provider, or go to the OWN website and use the provided "Channel Finder." To use the Channel Finder, one enters one's zip code and selects his/her TV service provider from a drop-down list.  The channel number pops up from there.
On its first weekend, programming on OWN will include:
Saturday, January 1, 2011:
Noon -- Oprah's Guide to OWN. Oprah Winfrey introduces viewers to her new OWN channel.
8:00 p.m. -- Season 25: Oprah Behind the Scenes, 2 episodes. This show will take viewers behind the set ofThe Oprah Winfrey Show during its 25th and final season.
Sunday, January 2, 2011:
8 p.m. -- Ask Oprah's All-Stars. A "2-hour OWN event" where three of the experts Oprah Winfrey has helped make famous on her talk show will answer questions.  The experts are:  Dr. Phil (psychology), Suze Orman (finances), and Dr. Oz (health).
10 p.m. -- Oprah Presents Master Class.  This show will feature "life lessons" from "some of the preeminent and most interesting thought leaders of our generation." The first episode features Diane Sawyer.
The network will also have other new programs starting up on Monday, January 3:  Enough Already! with Peter Walsh; In The Bedroom with Dr Laura Berman; Miracle Detectives; and Cristina Ferrare’s Big Bowl of Love. On Friday, January 7, the network will debut Your Own Show: Oprah's Search for the Next TV Star, a competition show established as a vehicle for a nationwide search for talent for the network.
According to the Los Angeles Times, future programming on OWN will include a talk show hosted by Gayle King and a documentary series. Other reports have indicated that Rosie O'Donnell may return to television on OWN, and Shania Twain may host a reality show about her life.
